A Message from the Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities

"As our university continues to grow, we face new challenges while striving to provide quality education to our students. As outlined in the mission of this institution, we seek to provide "intellectual leadership through quality undergraduate and graduate programs." This includes focusing not only on academic achievement, but also on academic integrity. Achievement without integrity is not achievement at all. Therefore, it is important that we engage students as well as faculty in discussing expectations of our academic standards. These standards include defining cheating, plagiarism, and classroom civility and understanding how they affect academic standards and learning at our institution. It is through this process that we develop a sense of our community values. In adopting a shared set of university community values, students, faculty, and staff came together to develop the UCF Creed. The UCF Creed is an expression of institutional values and standards that we hold as important to membership in the university community. The new student convocation held for the first in the Fall 2001 semester was a time to celebrate the start of our new students' academic journey and learn the UCF Creed."

"It is through collaborations like these that our office provides resources to faculty and instructors to assist in addressing these challenges in a positive, proactive manner. If you should have any comments, questions, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via e-mail at: pmackown@mail.ucf.edu, or by calling (407) 823-6960."
